Spread Joy, Love & Hope

Brighten someone’s day through making and sending a kind word to a soul in need.

We work with civic organizations, schools, individuals and groups to create cards for various senior care communities.

What We Do

We provide a game-plan to deliver smiles to residents of nursing homes, independent & assisted living communities, and other facilities.

Make a positive difference in someone’s day by delivering words of encouragement and caring thoughts, showing them someone cares.

How it Started

At the young age of 9, Evan Astrike-Davis came up with the idea of having his Cub Scout Pack 495 make Valentine’s cards for local nursing home residents and hospice patients. It was a huge success. About twenty boys rose to the challenge to make over 100 Valentine’s in an hour! When Evan delivered the cards he met with each recipient to give them the card along with a hug, smile, high-five, and so on. As he visited with them, many elderly men and women told him about their own scouting days decades before. Some things have changed, but a lot has not. When he left the last nursing home, Evan said “This is the best Valentine’s ever! We have to do this again next year.” With that, Cards from the Heart was born.

How it’s Going

“Our most seasoned loved ones hold a special place in our hearts. From our grandparents to our neighbors and teachers of all stages throughout our lives, these people have influenced us in one way or another. There are many cases where seniors feel alone and unloved for various reasons. I started this organization and continue to power it to let our life experts know they are cared for, but also to help groups of civic-minded individuals gain value of a meaningful shared goal, and pass that passion forward.”

4th of July Event

This 4th of July was an extra special one as Cards From the Hearts founder, Evan Astrike-Davis helped to double the smiles by organizing participants to create cards and deliver them to a national treasure – our Veterans.

Shout out to the Fairfield Fins for making such awesome cards to share with veterans in Durham.

Then & Now: 10 Years of Cards from the Heart

This is the first year Evan did Cards with his program called Scouts with HeART.

For 10 years, Mr. James has been as much of a staple in the Cards from the Heart family as Evan, the charity’s founder.

“I have met some incredible people as I shared artwork and cards from the heart over the years. Along the way, I have made some great fiends, like Mr. James. We share a love of sports and candy, and he is always quick with a smile or a joke as he helps me hand out cards. I missed seeing him during the pandemic, but this summer we reconnected.”
